Are You Sure That You're A Christian?

What is it exactly that defines one as a Christian? What is it that we can point out to that clearly proofs us as a Christian?

Is it because we believe in Jesus?
Jas 2:19 ESV (19) You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe--and shudder!

Is it because you attend church or because you live a pious lifestyle or even because you know the Bible?
Jesus called the religious leaders of His day 'sons of hell'!
Mat 23:15 ESV (15) Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel across sea and land to make a single proselyte, and when he becomes a proselyte, you make him twice as much a child of hell as yourselves.

Is it because we participate in spiritual events - such as casting out demons, prophesying, working miracles, etc?
Mat 7:22 ESV (22) On that day many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?'

Is it because we obey the 'law' / Bible and we really want to follow Jesus?
Luk 18:18-23 ESV (18) And a ruler asked him, "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" (19) And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. (20) You know the commandments: 'Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.'" (21) And he said, "All these I have kept from my youth." (22) When Jesus heard this, he said to him, "One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me." (23) But when he heard these things, he became very sad, for he was extremely rich.

How then do we know ourselves as Christians... what is it that qualifies us?
I'd love to hear your comments on this one!

Great question .Here are my thoughts
1st When you receive Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour, you will die out to self. What does that mean? It means you won't be pampering and petting and cultivating selfish desires. Old self wants his way. He loves to sit on the throne of our lives and give orders. Self will be with us for as long as we live, but we must get "old self" under control!

2nd Willing Obedience

3rd Everyone will see .And you won't have to wear a sandwich-board to declare it, either! Folks will look at you and know there is "something different" about you. It is an immediate change--you won't talk the way you used to talk, you won't think the way you used to think. The Word of God tells us that many of the things you used to love you will now hate, and many of the things you used to hate you will now love. Those things of the world that used to be so attractive to you will lose their appeal. You will want to know more about God and this wonderful Savior, Jesus Christ. You will have a burning desire to share the good news with everyone you meet.

The question I always ask myself is not ‘Does God love me” , that’s always a resounding YES. But its “Is God pleased with me?

One way I can tell if I am growing as a Christian is “Am I loving more what he loves and hating more what he hates”
